Subject: World Alternative Robotics Competition July 19, 2008 @11: 00 AM Miatta Conference Hall, Brookfields Freetown, Sierra Leone
Dear Potential Donor:
Technology has become an integral part of the universal culture of our modern world. Part of Refsta’s mission is to enhance pedagogical skills and cultural experiences through partnerships, digital literacy and online interaction. This also includes exchanges between students in the United States and other cultures of the world. Thanks to the information age, robotics competition among students in K through 12 of the developed world is now included in the genus “entertainment” of popular culture. Unfortunately, economic constraints have kept youths of poor countries and distressed urban and rural communities of the First World out of these competitions. As an alternative, Refsta in collaboration with Reffell French Memorial School in Freetown Sierra Leone are initiating low cost robotics contest designed to allow groups in poor areas of the First World and the Developing World to participate in this fast growing culture.
Our first World Alternative Robotic Competition' will take place in Sierra Leone on July 19, 2008 as indicated above. The objective is to build a non silicon programmable robot from bamboo and twigs, an innovation accomplished by the ancient Greeks two thousand years ago. Because of the financial plights of our targeted students, Registration fees were waved and we are depending on the generosities of sponsors to defray the cost of making this competition a successful and memorable event for our competitors. Donations can include gifts and prices for first second and third place teams. More information on the different types of sponsorship can be found on the page “ World Alternative Robotics Competition, (WARC) “
Please make your donation on this site, or you can make donation check to “World Alternative Robotics Competition" and mail to Refsta Inc. Education Consortium 11520 Laurel Bowie Rd # 1A Laurel MD 20708, USA Or Reffell French Memorial School Tower Hill Freetown Sierra Leone.
If you have a preference to contribute toward any one of the projects or activities listed on the web, please so indicate. Every contributor will be acknowledged by a letter and acknowledged at the competition. The names of sponsors will be posted on this site, if the donor has no objection.
Sincerely Yours r. Massala Reffell Jr. O.D. Victoria Lehman President, Refsta Inc. Coordinator, Alternative Robotic Competition. |
