Text Box: First Alternative World Robotics Competition
Robotics is a subject of great interest for education in the developed nations since it combines a number of disciplines and provides students with interactive environments in which to learn. In recent years, there has been a proliferation of robotics competition among students in the developed world. Robotic Contests tend to be expensive in terms of materials, organization and implementation. Such financial constraints make it impossible for many students in poor countries to participate in such contests
Our contest is designed as a low cost alternative to allow groups in both poor areas of the first world and students in the developing world to participate and contribute to the robotics revolution.

Robotics as an academic tool consists of three overlapping technologies.
Electronics is used to sense the environment, and is used together with software technology for controls. Mechanics is required to allow the robot to perform motions of the given mission.

The Stage 1 Robotic Competition aptly named Programmable Automaton is heavily mechanical in nature with a programmable element.
Over 2000 years ago a great Greek Engineer, Hero of Alexandria, working mainly for the Romans developed a programmable Automaton or robot that used rope or string to perform complex tasks that would normally require sophisticated software and electronic hardware to produce the same results. Competitors for this competition are required to use local materials to accomplish the same.
This competition allows anyone, anywhere, to compete regardless of the economic status of the community or nation. The next level competition Stages 2 and 3 would require knowledge and use of both electronics and computer software. The next stage is to be
